About This Recipe

This rose cream is made with rose infused oil, which is then combined with shea butter for deep moisture and rose hydrosol to drench the skin as the oils and butters soak in. Roses are packed with antioxidants and are deeply nourishing for all skin types. They are balancing, contain Vitamin C, tone the skin, brighten the skin, feed the skin, and help to to keep it nourished and protected as we move through a day.

This is adapted from Rosemary Gladstar’s Perfect Cream Recipe. I love it! It is slightly more complicated, scroll down to bottom for tips for success for addiction help!

Rose Infused Oil Strained

Ingredients

Rose Infused Oil

  • 1 Cup Dried Roses
  • Apricot Oil (enough to cover herbs). You could also use Apricot, Almond or Grapeseed Oil

Body Butter

  • 2/3 cup Rose Infused Apricot Oil
  • 1/3 cup Shea Butter
  • 0.5oz Beeswax
  • 1/2 teaspoon Glycerin
  • 1 Tsp Arrow Root Powder
  • 2/3 cup Rose Hydrosol
  • 1/3 cup Aloe Vera Gel
  • *0.5 0z Leucidal SF Complete (not everyone uses a preservative, but your cream will last longer)
  • Optional Essential Oils
Optional Essential Oils; Rose & Lavender

Directions

Part 1: Combining and Heating Up

  1. Combine your Rose infused oil, Shea Butter, and Beeswax and melt gently over a double boiler.
  2. Once melted and slightly cooled add the lanolin, glycerin, and arrowroot powder.
  3. In another container combine your rose hydrosol and aloe vera gel, heat up gently to about 120F. When you combine the oils and waters, you want them to be about the same temperature.

Part 2: Combing Oils and Liquids

  1. This is where you combine oils and water to make cream. Make sure your oils and your waters are cooled down and are roughly the same temperature. You are going to slowly add the waters to your oils as you mix. Use a hand mixer or a blender.
  2. Slowly start mixing the oils, then very slowly add the water as you continue mixing. Watch this step carefully. Don’t go too fast. There may also be a point where your cream does not want to accept or incorporate any more water into it. Stop here.
  3. Once whipped add the Leucidal Liquid and essential oils (if using). Stir gently but thoroughly to combine.
  4. Pour your cream into clean and sterilized jars. The cream will thicken up as it sits.

Tips for Success

  • Because this cream recipe contains water (hydrosol + aloe vera gel), using a preservative will greatly prolong shelf life. Water breeds bacteria. The preservative listed is Ecocert approved and made from fermented radish.
  • Some folks don’t use a preservative and swear it lasts 3 months — it’s really up to you.
  • Either way, the following steps will help ensure a longer shelf life for your cream.
  • Use clean equipment. Wipe down tools with rubbing alcohol. Use clean jars and lids. Make sure everything is dry. Use hydrosol or distilled water — never tap or spring water. Store-bought aloe vera gel already contains mild preservatives.
  • Don’t use wooden spoons or spatulas to mix or scoop.
  • Grapefruit seed extract and rosemary extract are not preservatives. They help oils stay fresh, but do not prevent mold.
  • Beeswax isn’t a true emulsifier, but it works in this recipe. Pellets are easier to use and incorporate better. Don’t skip it — it helps bind oils and water.
  • Arrowroot is optional, but helps the cream absorb faster and feel less greasy.

To Use

Works best when applied to damp, clean skin.

Store in a cool place away from sunlight.

Enjoy!
