Ingredients

  • ½ cup calendula-infused tallow, 3.3 oz (see Notes)
  • 2 tbsp rosehip oil, 0.6 oz
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, 0.6 oz
  • 5 drops chamomile or lavender essential oil
Jar of whipped calendula tallow balm
Soft & Glowy

Directions

  1. Melt the calendula tallow in a double boiler, then pour it into the bowl you'll whip it in.
  2. When it has cooled slightly, add the rosehip oil and olive oil.
  3. Let it solidify, then add the essential oils and stir a bit to combine.
  4. Whip with a hand held immersion blender or hand mixer until smooth and silky.
  5. Spoon into a clean 6 oz glass jar and label.

To Use

  1. Scoop a small amount with clean, dry fingers.
  2. Gently massage into dry, irritated or sensitive skin.

Notes

  • Make the calendula tallow first: melt 1 cup tallow in a mini crock pot on low (or in a jar set in a crock pot with a few inches of water). Add ½ cup dried, packed-down calendula and infuse 4–6 hours on low or "keep warm."
  • While still warm, strain through a fine mesh strainer into a clean, heat-proof jar. You can use it just as it is for super sensitive skin.
  • You'll have a little calendula tallow left over. Store it lidded and labeled in the fridge; it lasts for months.
  • For very sensitive skin, rosacea or eczema, skip the essential oils entirely.
  • The essential oils are under 1%; you can add up to 20 drops total if you want more.
  • Thicker balm: halve the carrier oils, using 1 tbsp each of olive oil and rosehip oil.
