Vanilla Lip Balm Recipe

Vanilla Lip Balm Recipe

This Vanilla Lip Balm smells so good with warm, rich deep vanilla. It's made by infusing coconut oil with vanilla beans and then straining the larger bean out but leaving the seeds in, which then infuses even more over time, deepening the overall scent.

It's the same recipe as the Vanilla Lip Love and is deeply hydrating and seals moisture into the your lips keeping them smooth, soft, and smelling so good.

Vanilla Infused Coconut Oil

The first step is to Infuse the (solid) coconut oil with vanilla beans. I found one vanilla bean per 4 ounces of coconut oil is a pretty good ratio. The vanilla bean paste gets left in the coconut oil so the scent will continue to develop with time.

4 ounces Solid Coconut Oil

1 Vanilla Bean

Measure the coconut oil into a mini crock pot or a double boiler and melt the coconut on a low heat.

Slice the vanilla bean lengthwise and with a spoon scoop out the vanilla bean paste. Add this to melted coconut oil.

Chop the remaining vanilla bean into smaller pieces and place these into the melted coconut oil as well.

Heat on low for 4 to 6 hours. Keep checking on the infusion and the scent, when you have reached the scent that you like, stop infusing. Remember that since the vanilla beans are being left in the coconut oil it will continue to develop a scent over time.

Strain through a fine mesh strainer, one that will allow the coconut oil and the vanilla bean paste to pass through but will strain out the chopped pieces of vanilla. There will be brown vanilla paste that settles in the bottom of the jar.

The vanilla infused coconut oil can now be used in skincare recipes. Store what you are not using in a clean glass jar with a lid in a cool dark place.

When you are ready to use the vanilla coconut oil, place the jar in a pan of shallow water and heat gently until melted. Once melted, stir it up and then measure out the proportion needed.

Vanilla Lip Balm Recipe

Vanilla Infused Coconut Oil  6tbs (2.25oz)

Shea Butter 2tbs  (0.9oz

Beeswax  3 tbs (0.85oz)

     Lanolin  1-2 tbs (0.5-1.0oz)

Measure the vanilla infused coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax and lanolin into a double boiler. Gently melt all the ingredients until liquid. As you pour, give the lip balm mixture a stir every now and then to keep all the ingredients equally combined, and pour into half ounce tins.

Because the vanilla coconut oil has vanilla seed beans in it, some of them will settle to the bottom of the lip balm and the scent over the next few days will become even better.

When the vanilla coconut oil or the vanilla lip is used on skin, the vanilla beans just melt away with the heat of the skin.

This 5 ounce recipe filled 9 half ounce tins.

Use within 6 months and as with anything, if you notice anything strange color or smell stop using and throw it out.

Enjoy!!

Also the rest of the coconut oil that did not get used makes a great base for other skincare products, like a body butter or whipped vanilla body scrub.
