I see a lot folks make these natural lip tints and lip balms for their kids (which I LOVE), because they are non toxic and on the safer side than many (not all) tinted lip balms out there, and gentle intro to make-up BUT I think they are perfect pops of color for grown ups too when you want some makeup but also want to stay al naturale.
It's colored with pink mica, that you can find here, but there are other powders you could use for other hues. Like cocoa powder, tumeric, or arrowroot alone or combined with mica for different tints and colors. Play with it, have fun!
Tinted Lip and Cheek Glossy Balm Recipe
1.0 oz Beeswax (28g)
2.0oz Jojoba Oil (57g)
5.0oz Shea Butter (141g)
0.8 oz Vegetable Glycerine (2g)
0.8oz Vit E Oil (2g)
5 tsp Mica
Double Boiler
Heat Proof Glass Jar
Heat proof measuring cup (for pouring balm into tins)
15 Half ounce tins (or other container for lip & cheek tint)
Stirring Stick
Kitchen Scale
Measure the Jojoba Oil, Shea Butter and Beeswax into a double boiler and melt over low heat.
When everything is melted remove from the heat and add in the Glycerine and Vitamin E Oil. Stir well to combine and then add in the mica powder being careful not to breathe it in (wearing a mask and pouring/stirring carefully prevents this).
Stir well to incorporate the mica powder into the rest of the ingredients.
Pour into the tins. I like to give each little tin a stir after I pour just to make sure the mica is dispersed well into the glossy tint. You could half this recipe if you don't want to make that much, but they make great little gifts to have on hand.
*If you plan on using this just on your lips then you could add in a bit of peppermint essential oil for that cooling and plumping effect on lips. But if you plan on using it as a cheek tint as well as a lip tint then skip the peppermint essential oil.
You can also adjust the amount of beeswax. I made this lip and cheek tint on the softer side so that it smooths on really easily and melts quickly onto lips and cheeks with the heat of the skin.
If you want a firmer lip and cheek tint just another 0.5oz or so of beeswax.
Use on lips and cheeks for a pop of color!
Enjoy!
