Frankincense & Mryhh Oil Infusion

Using the resins of frankincense and myrrh creates a deep golden magic body oil that can be used all over your body AND on your sweet cheeks.

The resins create a much more potent oil than using the essential oils and the resulting oil has a fuller more rounded out scent, but the real gem of using the resins is that the infused oil is packed with the antioxidant, antibacterial, hydrating and anti aging properties of both the myrrh and frankincense.

They both have been used for their abilities to reduce wrinkles, protect skin from damaging uv rays, even out skin tone and deeply moisturize skin. Some of my own sun freckles have lightened with use. It also works on achy joints.

It's plant magic. (Don’t use myrrh if you are pregnant or nursing)

Magic Oil

1 ounce Frankincense Resin

1 ounce Myrrh Resin

4 ounces Jojoba Oil

3 ounces Apricot Oil

Freeze the myrrh and frankincense before grinding them, it helps with their resinous sticky nature. Grind up to small little bits, almost the size of coarse sand.

Place the ground frankincense and myrrh in a clean jar and cover with the jojoba and apricot oil. A good base ratio is 1 ounce of herb to 3 ounces of oil. In this recipe I used 2 ounces of herbs and 7 ounces of oil.

Put everything in a jar and seal the lid. In a small crock pot place a small mason jar lid, place the jar in the crock pot on the lid and fill the crock pot with water so that the water comes up to the level of the oil. Place on a low setting for 45min to 6 hours. I heated mine on low for 6 hours and then left it overnight and strained it in the morning.

You can also use a double boiler method, just be sure to keep an eye on the water level so that you don’t run out of water. The crock pot is nice for this because the water evaporates so slowly the risk of running out is much lower.

Strain the oil through cheese cloth into a clean glass jar. I like to give this one a squeeze at the end of straining to get any leftover oil that is clinging to the little ground bits of resin.

Pour a small amount into a 2 ounce dropper bottle or pump bottle. Store what you are not using in a dark and cool cabinet. Always test patch skin before using “new to you” products and do your research, herbs are mighty things. Avoid using myrrh if pregnant or nursing.
